Shantel is 18-years-old and lives in Havertown, PA. She attends The Vanguard School full time. Volunteering at the Elmwood Zoo, piecing together large puzzles, and practicing jujitsu are some of the hobbies she pursues. She enjoys caring for her dogs, Ben and Sebastian, which feeds into her aspirations of one day working in veterinary medicine. Shantel received the COVID-19 vaccination just prior to her interview in February 2021 and was looking forward to returning to school in person soon.

Abigail: If you could go back and tell yourself something, like go back in time before COVID hit and tell your pre-COVID self something about how to prepare for what’s coming, what would you tell yourself?
Shantel: Hmm, that’s a good one. I would tell myself to be brave, to stay calm. If something changes that’s really big, don’t get mad or anything. Just stay calm.
